ENTP Careers

ENTPs tend to thrive in flexible environments that allow them to work at their own pace. They enjoy solving complex problems with creative solutions.

Myers-Briggs ENTP Energized at Work

ENTP personality types feel energized at work when...

  • They are asked to think up new ideas.
  • Their boss is direct and honest.
  • Their peers are energetic and hard-working.
  • Their direct reports work efficiently.

ENTPs want to have the freedom to pursue their own path - they love when they can use their minds to think outside the box. They work hard and they expect others to put in a similar effort. They will likely work best in environments where everyone is motivated toward a similar cause.

Myers-Briggs ENTP Drained at work

ENTP personality types feel drained at work when...

  • They have to carefully consider the emotions of others.
  • Their boss requires them to follow a strict schedule.
  • Their peers don’t engage them in conversation.
  • Their direct reports need constant affirmation.

Because they tend to be motivated by logic, ENTPs are less likely to work well in environments that are highly emotional. They also need regular stimulation and conversation, so they won’t thrive in positions that don’t give them the opportunity to talk to or work with others.

They also appreciate when their direct reports can confidently take action on their own. Though they enjoy leading, they’ll likely feel drained if they have to constantly guide or affirm others.

ENTP types are energetic and engaging; they have the ability to persuade people with their wide knowledge and love using their intellect. They tend to do well in positions that provide them with the opportunity to learn and problem solve without forcing them into a traditional mold.

Myers-Briggs ENTP Common Jobs

Common jobs for people with ENTP personality types

Psychologist
ENTPs’ curiosity and logic may help them succeed as psychologists. They would have a chance to work alongside others, research what interests them, and help patients take a step back from their feelings to effectively clarify what needs to be done. While they may need to work on delivering feedback gently, their ability to discuss emotions honestly and solve difficult problems can be effective when working with psychology.

Film Producer
Film producing would allow ENTPs to make creative decisions and lead a team of people. Their skills of persuasion and determination would likely come in handy when securing financing for a project they’re passionate about. It takes a specific kind of person to be involved in the many different sides of film-making (creative, legalistic, financial, and more), and ENTPs might just fit that role.

Sales Representative
Their natural energy and confidence helps ENTPs effectively pitch new, interesting products to others. They may love the process of constantly meeting new people, working at their own intense pace, and using out-of-the-box thinking to see results.

Journalist
An ENTP’s ability to uncover the truth through discussion, exploration, and pure persistence is almost unmatched. They naturally follow their own hunches and don’t mind ruffling a few feathers to get the information they need, which makes them well-suited for a career in journalism.

Engineer
ENTPs are likely to make thoughtful engineers, since they are skilled problem-solvers and critical thinkers. They have minds that were made for spotting and resolving complex issues, which can come in handy when dealing with the intricate troubleshooting involved in engineering.

Lawyer
Natural debaters, ENTPs are usually comfortable with tense discussion. They have the ability to see the big picture, untangle complicated webs, and present the case to others in a compelling way, which may make them strong lawyers.

Scientist
ENTPs may be skilled at uncovering truth - as scientists, they would likely think up new possibilities and put their energy into proving them right or wrong. They are able to comfortably think through complex topics and explore the best, most logical reason for something.
