ESTJ Weaknesses

Although ESTJs have many wonderful skills and strengths that can benefit everyone around them, they also have blind spots that can negatively impact them if left unchecked. If ESTJs don’t learn to manage or overcome potential areas of weakness, their strengths may be overshadowed and their positive impact dampened.

Myers-Briggs ESTJ Weaknesses

Weaknesses that are typically associated with the ESTJ personality type include...

  • Difficulty adapting to unexpected circumstances
  • Lack of tolerance when disagreeing with another’s actions
  • Tendency to take control, even when it's not their place
  • Struggling to express feelings or emotions

ESTJs may have trouble adapting to a change in plan. They prefer following schedules and creating well-thought-out plans. However, with a bit of time to get used to a change and a good understanding of why the change was implemented in the first place, they’re likely to adjust well.

They tend to have a hard time patiently disagreeing with others. They’re normally very open with their opinions, which may upset others. With practice, ESTJs can learn to be more patient in conversations and present their viewpoint more gently.

ESTJs may take the reigns, even when they are not in charge, which can be frustrating for other people. Though they tend to make good leaders and may have a lot to offer the situation, ESTJs should recognize when to step back and work in a supporting role.

They may have a hard time expressing their emotions. ESTJs tend to focus on expressing themselves logically, which may hinder their relationship with emotion. However, ESTJs can learn to be more emotionally vulnerable when they practice taking the time to recognize and understand how they may be feeling.

When ESTJs make the effort to recognize and overcome their blind spots, they can take steps toward self-improvement. Implementing small changes, one at a time, can lead to major growth and long-term development.
